Enviromental Information Center
The Larnaca Salt Lake is a protected wetland in direct contact with the urban fabric of the city. The proposal for the Environmental Information Center is conceived as a transitional infrastructure between the city and the natural landscape, fully integrated into the environment of the Salt Lake. Its design aims to provide both educational and recreational experiences while respecting the ecological sensitivity of the site. The project is organized around a circular path that follows the existing routes and responds to the environmental conditions of the site. This path structures visitor movement and serves as the main framework for the Center. Instead of a single, isolated building, the Center is a system of covered and open spaces connected to the landscape, allowing visitors to experience the environment in a continuous and immersive way. The program develops linearly along the path. Functions such as information areas, exhibition space, projection hall, educational rooms, library, and research facilities are located in the covered sections, while outdoor and semi-outdoor areas for activities, workshops, and observation are integrated along the route. A raised observation platform is included as a vertical element, offering controlled views of the Salt Lake, designed to minimize disturbance to local wildlife. The design keeps a small footprint and strengthens the planting with native Cypriot species, creating a soft but clear transition between built structures and the natural environment. The overall approach ensures that visitors can learn, explore, and interact with the landscape in a respectful and engaging way.
